The trail was particularly quiet for a saturday. Our dog has a knee injury, so we are doing some shorter hikes while we monitor her. It was so nice to have the falls almost entirely to ourselves! The road on the way in has quite a few potholes; however, we managed just fine in a low clearance car. Any car should be fine as long as you go slowly and are careful in avoiding the deepest potholes.

The trail was great! Snow free but today it was definitely NOT rain free! :) but that’s ok! If we didn’t hike in the rain, we may never hike here in the winter! When you get to the falls you have an upper and lower trail. Make sure you do both. There’s a bench to sit at when you go to the upper trail. Great place to have a snack & drink some wine. :) Even though I had hiked this trail in the past, we passed the trailhead as we thought by the ‘how to get there’ directions we would end at the trailhead parking lot. When you bear right at the road junction, watch you mileage and the trail will be 1.3 miles on your right and parking on the left. The FS road keeps going. My sister and I actually had to get out and move a downed tree! It was a great adventure! My dog enjoyed the trail today too! (Trail sign lacking a bit)

My friend and I were the first to arrive at 9:45AM on Sunday December 17th. The road in was a bit pot-holed but I think any car can make it. No facilities at the trailhead so plan accordingly. We had the trail to ourselves for awhile, including the falls. On the way back we passed about 8-10 folks. We had stopped to photograph a lot of things along the way, making it back to the lot at 12:45PM. No obstacles to note. Great trail!!

After a week of pineapple express rains, we headed out to see the two most accessible falls along Hood Canal. On the way to the Duckabush Road we went up the Dosewallips Road about 3 miles to where the road crosses Rocky Brook Falls. Parked across from the small hydro plant and did he 0.2 mile walk to the falls. They were roaring like a jet engine...pretty spectacular with the amount of water coming over the top.

Then on to Murhut. It can't be more than 2.5 miles or so from where the pavement ends at the Ranger's Hole trail parking area up to the Murhut parking area. Quite a few potholes but no problem if you are slow and careful. The sign says 0.8 miles and 1000 ft of elevation gain. The distance seems right, but there is no way there is that much elevation gain. Half that at the most would be reasonable. The falls were amazing today. Lots of folks there taking photos.

This was a pretty easy going hike with a great waterfall at the end. I arrived at the same time as a large family with small kids and dogs so the hike was pretty family and critter friendly. Towards the end at the falls it got a little tricky with so many people and the dogs there so take your time and be careful if you’re bringing a group. The falls were spectacular, well worth the hike to it!
