In spite of the wet and windy weather, we managed to get out and walk a few miles before the rain started. We saw a few winter birds, but we were too cold to linger on this otherwise pleasant outing.

Beautiful fall day that started with the Wednesday bird watching group. The last section of boardwalk closes on October 15th to ensure safety during hunting season. I went to the last point and along way saw several birds: Kingfisher, Osprey, Great Blue Heron. Easy trail mainly guided by boardwalk or well maintained paths.

A nice 4 mile walk mostly along boardwalks over the wetlands. Beautiful scenery here and chance for wildlife viewing with a very easy hike.

Now officially re-named Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Area. Always a great place for a stroll. We were planning on doing some birding, so we asked the ranger what we might expect. "Worst week of the year" he said. "The Cackling Geese will be back on Wednesday, but right now things are pretty slow." We did see Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles and other smaller species. Picked up the pace for the walk back, since there was little chance of seeing birds. It will be better next time.
