Haven’t been to Palouse forever, so decided to extend my roadtrip deep into the Eastern WA and re-visit this beautiful place.
Access road is in good condition. Not too many visitors at 4 pm on this cloudy, windy, chilly Saturday.
Trails beyond the parking area are open, although numerous signs will do their best to discourage hikers from going there (quite unsuccessfully). That being said, backdrops are no joke, so tons of caution should be used in that area. Trail down to the river and the falls is not physically closed either, besides a huge “stop” sign, but looking at it, I’ve been wondering how I survived when I hiked it 10 years ago (before closures started and before signs were posted). Needless to say I didn’t even think about repeating that experience today.

We stopped by the falls while driving across state. I wouldn't say they are raging as it has been a dry winter, but they were impressive all the same. Some marmots were scampering about and we enjoyed a picnic in the now closed camping area in near 60-degree weather. A nice loop out to a viewpoint of some upper falls is available but this is mainly a drive up and see kind of place.
