Decided to finally take the long car ride from Seattle to see the falls - and we weren't disappointed. It took about 4 hours to get to the lot (if you forget, or don't have a Discovery Pass, you can park a bit further away and walk in). There are multiple viewpoints, all fenced in for safety. Plenty of people out camping there - the sky must look amazing at night!
We decided to hike down a bit, as we didn't want to just look and go. The trail is not official, and it shows. There were a ton of people trying to head down on the narrow 'trail', a lot with little kids and it didn't seem like a very smart idea.
We went as far as being almost over top of the falls and stopped there. You can go down into the canyon and swim (there were quite a few handful of people doing it), but as we watched people trying to get back up the tail crawling on all fours and sliding on the dirt path, we decided against it. We'll wait until there's an official, safer trail here.
Otherwise, this was a great day trip! The weather was perfect, the falls were flowing, and just imagining what this used to look like thousands of years ago was mind blowing.
