Tons of switchbacks of steep stairs going down start near the beginning of the trail. Doesn't take long before you realize how committed you are! Make sure you bring water and maybe a snack. The trail splits at the bottom and it's only 0.25mi to Lost Lake. I will do this trail alot this winter I think. It's hard to describe how beautiful it is down there, we are surrounded by such beauty around here but this trail is unique. Love!!

We did a loop trip, driving up to Gates Overlook on the Creator Road. This road has deteriorated greatly over the last few years and desperately needs work, which apparently, the State Parks lacks the funds to undertake. The potholes are degrading into trenches. We walked back down the road to the Fragrance Lake trail entrance (about .8 of a mile) and went first to Fragrance Lake, then to the South Lost Lake Trail, where we encountered the wonderful WTA volunteers, who were digging trenches and clearing overgrowth. I was happy to meet Arlen, the major force behind the creation of the Rock Trail. It is truly an amazing trail--beautifully constructed to give the hiker a close view of the phenomenal cliffs. I'm really sorry I did not have my camera with me. And thanks again to WTA volunteers who have made this remarkable trail available to us.

There were nice views of the sound at the trailhead but no views on the trail. Left the trailhead at 10:30 AM and reached Lost Lake by 12:00. A few blowdowns crossed the trail but nothing too hard to step over. There was also a fun small cave to explore in one of the rock faces, about two people would fit at max. A fun hike!

A real workout for an old man like me, with all those stairs that were not bad going down but killer coming back up. Beautiful though. Made it to Lost Lake and connected with that trail but only followed it for a bit. Took us an hour to get to the lake and an hour to come back up. Nice and shady with an occasional breeze. That was a blessing on this hot September morning.

We started from the fragrance lake trail head off Chucanut drive. What an amazing hike! Can not even to begin to describe the beauty! So recommended!
