We started from the Lost Lake Trailhead (formerly known as Clayton Beach) off of Chuckanut Drive and headed north on the Interurban to Fragrance Lake Trail. South Lost Lake Trail had some spots muddy following a few days of rain. Highlight was trying out the new Rock Trail. Wow! A fun short 1.2 mile (OW) addition that connects Lost Lake Trail to Cyrus Gates Overlook by wandering up and around some amazing huge boulders. Great job volunteer trail makers on the several flights of stairs and a trail that follows the base of the rocks. Once we got to Cyrus GAtes we walked down Cleator Road and caught the Fragrance Lake Road trail all the way back to the Lost Lake parking area.

Parked across from the north entrance to Larrabee State Park and headed out on a great hike to Cyrus Gates overlook via Fragrance Lake and South Lost Lake Trail. Our primary goal was to see the new Rock Trail and what a fabulous trail it is! Many, many thanks to the hard-working WTA volunteers for building an incredibly beautiful trail!!!! A sad/annoying end to the hike - our car and another were broken into while parked along Chuckanut Drive.

Sunny with lots of bugs! Parked at second gate on Cleator Road. Began at South Lost Lakes TrailHead and hiked south west watching for the left turn at South Lost Lakes Trail. Then followed this to a point where I took a side trip to Overlander Trail, not marked as such, there's a sign that says Lost Lakes trail, turn right here for a side trip with wonderful views. Back track back to the sign and turn right to continue loop towards the new Rock trail. This is a cadillac of trails... beautiful boulders, ferns, creeks, and about 150 stairs to the top at where you have a choice of direction that isn't marked. Just go straight and you'll come to Cyrus Gates Overlook that has a bathroom. To finish this loop, follow the road back to the second gate. This loop trip is about 6 miles.

Beware of: trail conditions

This is the second time to hike this trail. The last time we did the Lost Lake route. This time we made a loop by via the Rock Trail, South Lost Lake Trail and then the Double Diamond back up to the Cyrus Gates Overlook. It is a relatively short route but coming up the Double Diamond always proves to be a good workout. Since we were there a month ago there are some excellent signs on the trail to finish off the great job of trail building.

WOW!!! Our group did an awesome loop this weekend starting w/the new Rock Trail. I agree with others that have posted that this trail is really beautifully done and the scenery is stunning. We started at the end of Cleator Road and added a trip to the back side of Lost lake where we stopped at the waterfall and lunched on a nice rock outcrop over the lake. Then we followed the Lost Lake Trail back to Fragrance Lake Road and took the Double Diamond Trail back to our vehicles…whew! A good workout for sure, so I didn't feel so bad enjoying my burger and hard cider at the Colophon Cafe in Fairhaven afterwards:) Great day out with friends, and thanks to the weather gods for holding off on the rain until we were happily heading for home!
