I try to do this hike every year. And every year I’m reminded that it’s one of the best day hikes in the state. The first 15-20 minutes are a bit tough and involve a scree rock scramble in places (harder coming down) but otherwise this is an easy mesa top hike. Stunning views, especially to the north over an archipelago of islands in Banks Lake, and a wild deer herd that walks down to the lake around dusk for water. Hike the full loop as most people stop at the north view. If you do you will have the trail to yourself.
