short easy trail along Hwy 20 winding through north cascades natl park. Reasons to hike it: low energy commitment (not steep), less time required, good example of moss and moisture-loving flora at lower elevation, transforming into drier climate plants at higher elevation, payoff with views of diablo lake at the end. park at the entrance to the campground. you will pass by a campground washroom with flushing toilets and running water. prior trip reports mention a log bridge crossing at the beginning of the trail. if you do any amount of hiking, this low-to-the-ground stable solid log bridge should not deter you.
This hike was everything we were looking for: big views for not a lot of elevation, a taste of North Cascades NP forest, and did I mention the views?
We popped up from Darrington in the afternoon, so parking around the trailhead area / campsite was challenging. After about 15 minutes and a tight squeeze, we worked it out. After heading up the main road of the campsite, following the signs and crossing the bridge, we were on the trail. Got a taste of some lush forest before the trail breaks out into the sun. Only took us about 45 minutes to make it to the top. Once there, we joined about five other groups (people were spread out and quiet / chill) and enjoyed our snacks and the epic views. After snapping some group photos, we make our way down - an easy taste of the North Cascades good for any ability!

Great easy hike with a great view at the end! This was a nice quick one on our Cascades Loop trip. The switchbacks make quick work of the elevation gain. Suitable for all skill and fitness levels. Funnily enough, the hardest bit was balancing on the log to get to the bridge at the beginning.
