Had a great hike up here on Saturday. Not too much to comment on since the trail is so short. To start the hike you'll have to skip over a small creek or cross it via a log bridge. Even at the middle of the day on a Saturday, it wasn't too crowded, my wife and I had a spot to ourselves at the top for about 10 minutes.
Parking was readily available when we arrived at about 1:30pm.

I would definitely recommend this trail for great views of Diablo Lake and the surrounding mountains! There appeared to be a little bit of parking in the campground and then more along Highway 20. We arrived around 1pm on a Friday and all of the parking was close to full! You do have to walk over a log (or alternately through a stream) at the start of the trail. The trail was the right distance for a short, afternoon hike!

This is a nice short hike to get the blood flowing in the legs again after sitting in the car for a while on our way home from camping. The trail starts by crossing Colonial Creek via a bridge, but to get to the bridge, you have to hop on a different log to cross a section of the creek. Once across the creek, the trail climbs very gradually through salal and hemlock. It appears that part of the forest must have burned in the 2015 fires since there are large stands of dead and blackened trees.
The trail has multiple benches for those who want to catch their breath or just sit quietly to contemplate the surrounding trees and peek views of Colonial Peak. The marshy area has interesting purple fuzzy wildflowers that I am unable to identify.
The views of Diablo Lake and Sourdough Mountain from the knob are gorgeous. We saw two deer, a doe, and a young stag, along the hiking trail. They did not seem alarmed to see people and held their ground when we walked within 2 feet from them.
