My husband and I took our 6 month old on her first hike and it was awesome! The view was incredible and the weather perfect. I carried our daughter on a pack and the distance and steepness was perfect for our first hike with baby. Loved it!

My stepdad, my 5year old and my 7year old did this hike on Saturday. It was the perfect length for us. It was not difficult and the reward at the end was stunning and well worth it. and the kids LOVED crossing the log bridges to get over the creeks they thought that was the coolest! Thanks to the Rangers at the Newhalem visitors center for suggesting this hike! It was not wheelchair accessible as there was a lot of loose rocks and roots to step over. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the N. Cascades!

This is a relatively easy and short hike with a beautiful view at the end. While there isn't a lot of elevation gain, I wouldn't call this wheelchair accessible as the hike description says.

Reached the trailhead around 1pm. The parking lot was more or less full, and we encountered a dozen or more parties on the trail, but other that that the conditions were perfect.

Beautiful Sunday drive up the Cascade Highway. Our first stop was at the North Cascades Visitor's Center for a picnic and so the kids could have some fun exploring the interpretive center. The Thunder Knob parking area is just outside the Colonial Creek Campground on Diablo Lake. We made our way through the empty campground, across the bridges of Colonial Creek and began the gradual climb up Thunder Knob. The snow capped peaks were breathtaking and the pockets of bear grass and other wildflowers were lovely surprises. The top is where you will want spend a fair amount of time gazing at the turquoise waters of Diablo Lake or the snowy peaks of the North Cascades. Perfect hike for any age, shape or fitness level :-)
