Type of Hike

Day hike
I dropped in on the volunteer crew that was hard at work building the second section of a reroute to see how it was going. The new trail is a 4 ft. single track that winds through the woods replacing a 12' wide, muddy nearly straight old road. Its a remarkable improvement to the hiking experience! They engineered the new trail to bend around large trees limiting sight distance to enhance the feel of being deep in the woods. As well they put purposeful grade reversals and outslopes to move water off the trail. With heavy horse traffic too, it is prone to getting muddy. However, the Parks staff plan to harden the surface with gravel and local equestrians are volunteering to lend a hand. Come join a Youth and Family-Friendly 1/2 Day work party on Saturday the 6th of July and again on July 27th. Visit our work parties page to register!
