We used our 'every kid in a park' pass for the first time! Stopped in at the forest service station to ask about the road & get the pass then headed up. It was the longest 12 miles I've ever driven! Took about an hour to reach the trailhead. My Subaru Impreza did great, we just went super slow over potholes, sharp rocks and uneven surfaces. The trail is just what I had hoped for. Well maintained, uncrowded, not too strenuous, steady climb but totally manageable with my 10 y/o son. We logged 4.8 miles round trip, a big portion of the ridge line was covered in snow and we didn't have hiking poles so we didn't attempt it. We attracted a resident horsefly that managed to accompany us the whole way up! It was gone when we emerged at the top, where we promptly lost it for the spectacular views. Gorgeous! Amazing.
If it wasn't for the drive I'd be going back soon. I will definitely go back but I have a few others to check off my list this summer.
