Ebey's Landing — Feb. 14, 2014

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
Beware of: trail conditions

Grey day, but still had nice visibility with no rain. Went counter clockwise from Prairie Overlook. Trail in good condition, a handful of wetter parts. Rain started up once we hit the beach and visibility dropped. Beautiful day overall. Saw at least 12-14 other people, but generally felt like a private hike.

Even with some rain showers, this is a beautiful trip with great views and the bonus of beach time!

With a break in the weather promising a bit of sunshine between fronts, I decided that I was about time to get hiking season started. Where to go? Well, this time of year is always perfect for a good Puget Sound hike. Ebey's Landing, here I come! It was a little nippy, so I was all bundled up at the start of the hike. Mt. Baker and the Cascades were clearly visible in all their splendor. I did the loop starting with the bluff. There was plenty of mud and some slippery spots on the bluff from the recent rain. But, golly, it sure was beautiful, with views out over the sparkling waters of Admiralty Inlet to the Olympic Mountains. I dropped down to the beach, where the water gently lapped the shore in the glistening sunshine. What a day!

Needing to burn off a little Superbowl tension, we picked a hike with a turnoff on Sherman Rd. and of course took a picture of the 12th man. Nice weather and great views of the Olympic mtns surrounded by clouds. No problems with the trail. Try to hit the beach part when the tide is low for easier walking. The parking lot at the lower end was full and cars were parked along the road, but even so hikers were spread out and the trail did not feel crowded. Pictures posted
