On a partly cloudy morning took the forest walk to Beaver Lake. This fairyland path, although short, offers lush forest and river views. The trail has had recent work and there's only one spot where it's a little tricky especially when wet, but stairs have been cut into the muck so it's not bad. At the bridge over the lake I watched as a pair of startled ducks took flight and on the way back a Blue Heron also took to the air. All in all a beautiful spot.

We were out on a trail work party on the trail this weekend with a PCTA trail skills class and did work on some of the areas that had problems with drainage and where the river is eroding the bank. It is MUCH better, but there will still be that one slick/steep spot by the river due to clay and seepage until the trail sees more work/rerouting. This was my first visit to the trail, it looks great for families.

There were some new facilities and parking area at the trailhead since the last time I hiked this, they did a really nice job. This is an easy hike so I started in the afternoon, about 2:40pm. The trail is well groomed and in great shape, the only issue being some erosion where the trail is near the river but it is easily navigable. Because of the clouds the peaks were hidden but spring is in full force here with some intense green vegetation and a strong smell of skunk cabbage. A great, easy, spring hike that follows the Sauk River with some nice views. After reaching the lake I followed the trail to a riverbank which looks like an old washout which was the end of the trail. This was a great early season hike and would also be a good hike for families and kids. Had the trail to myself today and was back at the trailhead by 4:30.

Great little hike! Only 2 other cars in the parking lot. Most of the trail is flat, a few areas that required is to climb down or climb over a big tree.

A nice gentle walk on an overcast spring day. The washout near the start was easy to negotiate, even though the river was too high to walk along the riverbank. Beautiful scenery, the only drawback was a lot of stinging nettles alongside the path.
