There were some new facilities and parking area at the trailhead since the last time I hiked this, they did a really nice job. This is an easy hike so I started in the afternoon, about 2:40pm. The trail is well groomed and in great shape, the only issue being some erosion where the trail is near the river but it is easily navigable.
Because of the clouds the peaks were hidden but spring is in full force here with some intense green vegetation and a strong smell of skunk cabbage. A great, easy, spring hike that follows the Sauk River with some nice views. After reaching the lake I followed the trail to a riverbank which looks like an old washout which was the end of the trail.
This was a great early season hike and would also be a good hike for families and kids. Had the trail to myself today and was back at the trailhead by 4:30.
