Headed out for this hike. WTA says it’s only 850 gain I think that maybe wrong. We did add the extra 2 miles round trip to the viewpoint. Felt like much more of a gain. Trail is in great shape and is a beautiful hike with plenty of benches along the way. Trail was not crowded at all maybe saw 6 or 7 small groups. It started pouring on us but was still worth it. Definitely worth the drive and hike!

Another great trip on the Big Creek loop up he the overlook. This trail never disappoints and is a wonderful alternative to busier trails when you just just want to get out and hike with some decent elevation gain and mileage without being gone all day.
The trail crews do an amazing job!
the restrooms inside the campground are now open and in good shape. Remember that if you park at the parking lot near restrooms, you need your parking pass. Without a parking pass, you can park along the road.

Great loop on a wonderfully maintained trail. We got to the trailhead at around 10am on a sunny Friday with only a couple other cars there. During the hike, we saw a handful of people but mostly had the trail to ourselves. This trail does climb pretty constantly for the first couple miles, but it's not too steep a grade and there are many benches along the way for rests. In the second half, we crossed the creek several times over cool bridges, and there are many opportunities to walk to the creek. We ended up adding in the viewpoint that is a mile onto the Mount Ellinor connector and highly recommend doing that - it is a climb but the viewpoint is worth it with a nice bench for lunch!

We hiked the Big Creek loop from our campsite at Big Creek Campground. We went clockwise, which meant we started the hike by climbing and ended with the descent. The first two plus miles are essentially all uphill. They got our heart rate up. From the junction with the Mt. Ellinor Trail back to camp we only saw one other group, making it seems like most people were doing an out and back or connecting this to other trails. I think they missed out a bit because the second half of the loop if you’re going clockwise is beautiful with several creek crossings and some peak a boo views of the tall mountains above. Altogether we found this to be a satisfying hike that got our blood pumping and helped us appreciate our surroundings at Big Creek Campground.
