Great short hike with nice lite change in elevation. Other trails attached if you want to add on.

Cougar Mountain is one of the places I rarely visit, despite it being so close to Seattle. This is partially because I'm not a big fan of the trails (not a lot of challenge nor good views), but also because of the crowds. This place gets packed on the weekends with families, but if you don't mind that, then it's a great place to take a stroll in the woods. One benefit of the wide, well maintained trails is that they're great for trail running. You don't need to worry about getting caught behind someone or causing any issues with your speed. There's also not a ton of elevation gain, even on the uphill sections, so it makes for a good training ground. The trails themselves are nicely surfaced, so you won't be rolling your ankle on roots or loose rocks. The falls make for a decent destination on the loop, so I'd recommend this if you want a nice easy hike in the woods without spending tons of time getting to a trailhead. Just be prepared to meet hundreds of other like-minded people out there!

This was our family's first hiking endeavor. The trails were kinda muddy but not too deep. We were very surprised to encounter the waterfall. We went halfway down the trail and then turned back since we neglected to bring any water. We stopped several times for foto opps. We'll come back and complete the trail and be better prepared. I was hoping there would be a water fountain along the way or a port-a-potty. Now we know. We really enjoyed this trail and look forward to going on many more!

Headed out to Cougar Mountain...found the gate locked at 8:30 am. We parked along Newcastle-Coal Creek Road with about 10 other vehicles. Trail is a little muddy (to be expected after our recent rain) but otherwise in great shape. We've been to Coal Creek Falls a number of times, but this was the first time with recent significant rainfall. Wow! What a difference that makes! The falls are amazing right now. From the Red Town trailhead, we took the following path: Red Town Trail - Cave Hill Trail - Coal Creek Falls Trail - Quarry Trail - Indian Trail - Red Town Trail back to the trailhead. My watch puts the mileage for this loop at 3.31 miles and total elevation gain of 573 feet. Cougar Mountain is a gem of a park all year round, but this trail was particularly spectacular today. Two thumbs up!

Hiked to Coal Creek Falls with kids. Easy and clear trail, a little muddy, a few icy patches. Falls were nice, plenty of icicles. Took about an hour and a half start to finish. Good parking, easy access.
