Went out for an afternoon hike loop starting on Old Man's Trail, then to Cave Hole, then Coal Creek Falls to Quarry, and up Fred's Railroad to come back via the bypass trail. This was a great first hike of the spring for me, perfect level of challenge and lots of visual interest. There was lots of water and muddy spots along the trail but nothing more than an inch or so deep. There is a tree that has tipped near Coal Creek Falls that took out part of the trail when it fell and a few other blown down trees across parts of Quarry Ridge and Coal Creek Falls Trail. Overall, though, the trails are wide and easy and in great shape. This would be a good family hike; I saw lots of families out on it, some with pets.

We parked in the Red Town trailhead parking lot and saw a number of people coming down and heading off to the different trails at the base of Cougar Mountain. Easily crossed the street and found the trailhead for Coal Creek just as described. The trail was in surprisingly decent condition in light of the fact we were hiking in substantial rain showers that only increased as we made our way. There were definitely soft, slick, and sometimes total puddle covered paths along the way, however the majority of the trail has been continued to be maintained quite well making it easy to keep a good pace. Watch your step though on all the built in wooden bridges and steps as they were quite slick. Of note is that a lot of the side loops along the way are currently closed, so if you are starting off on Coal Creek looking for a number of side trails to take that is not an option at this time. Overall, really enjoyed the fact that we saw only two other people the entire time heading out and back on the trail - very peaceful. Overall a nice 2-3 hour escape from the city with my wife.

Sky Country (the parking area) was packed and crowded with a party of runners who cleared out as we started the hike. Once we began, we only ran into a handful of people the whole way through. All of the trails are well maintained - in particular Coal Creek Falls trail which was just renovated by the WTA (thanks!). The waterfall is very pretty and the water was flowing healthily through the creek. TLDR: Easy and relatively uncrowded hike on well maintained trail to a pretty waterfall.

We arrived to the parking lot around 1pm. So many cars.... nice easy trail to hike with kids. A little water on the trail but no problem at all. Many friendly people on the trail.

Hiked the De Leo Wall loop with a side trip to Coal Creek falls Sunday morning from the Red Town trail head. Route followed - Wildside trail, right on Marshall's Hill trail, across the water tank access road to the De Leo Wall trail, back along Indian Trail, right onto Quarry Trail, left on Coal Creek Falls trail then back around via Cave Hole trail. This is a beautiful loop hitting two of Cougar Mt's best sights. One word of caution - the trail out along the De Leo Wall view points is a steep drop off so you might leave the dogs and little ones home if you plan to do that section. The views off De Leo are always good even if there is some cloud cover and the falls, while not huge, is really neat because you can get so close. One of my favorite close in hikes.
