Travelled from Ellensburg to try a new walk. Did this walk many years ago, but from the western trailhead. This time we parked at the east TH. Lovely, easy walk through a pretty canyon with many of the trees still cloaked in their fall vestments. The recent snowfall made for a striking effect, especially on the red sumac and yellow aspen. Love how the burbling creek keeps you company the whole way. We crossed over multiple little footbridges, which is a sweet quirk of this hike. Reached the western trailhead without even trying, ate lunch under a large fir, and made it back to the car in under 3 hours, really taking our time. We'll be back to explore the other trails in this system, very curious about the vineyards trail. Great little hike that the dog also enjoyed!

Fall colors are at their max here.  We hiked out of the canyon, after about a mile, up to the vineyards and really enjoyed seeing the grape vines, after the harvest ... but, they didn't get all the grapes!  We gleaned lots and got sugary tummy aches.  There is a lovely, grassy picnic area at the tasting room area, which was closed on Thursday, which was OK since we had to hike back down to the canyon ... wine would not have helped.  Cowiche Canyon is a truly special place, and I encourage all to pay a visit.

I took an afternoon walk in Cowiche Canyon both yesterday and today.  Yesterday I started at the west end & today I started at the east end.  The color in the canyon is at it's peak right now & maybe even a little past.  It will be good for another week or so.  Both afternoons were sunny and warm.

Great shoulder season hike - the fall colors are near their prime right now.  We started and ended at Wilridge Winery, which is an unofficial trailhead of the Cowiche Canyon and Upland Trails, but has some great perks!  We dropped down the first mile into the canyon, headed upstream along Cowiche Creek for several miles, and then started up the upland ridge loop, turning first onto the Lone Pine Trail, then following the newly laid out connection to the East Uplands Trail, and then looping back down to Cowiche Creek prior to the climb back to Wilridge Winery.  Great views all along the ridge, and the fall colors dropping back into the canyon were awesome.  In total, a 7.5 mile loop with 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and some great wine to taste at the end of the trail!

I took a walk in Cowiche Canyon from the west end on this partly sunny-partly cloudy afternoon.  It is starting to color up in the canyon and will only get better and better over the next couple of weeks.
