If you stick to the main roads, you'll have no issues whatsoever. If you stick to main trails, you'll encounter nothing more than a few obnoxious blackberry vines, nettles and/or some muddy patches. If you try any side-trails or routes where you ask yourself, "I wonder if this is a viable trail?" you could find yourself biting off more than you hoped for.
We took the main trail through the cemetery and then that road down to the main line (the old rail bed) and then down to the river. No problems.
Coming back, at the big curve in the road, we decided to take the old main line (looked rather inviting...flat, moderately dry) back to the parking lot. No signs indicating any problems on this trail, as there are in some other areas of the park.
Loving a challenge, we climbed through a relatively recent jumble of trees and mud about 1/4 mile in and continued until we came upon a dangerous, very recent washout. Do not go past there. In fact, don't even take this trail to begin with. Just past the new washout is an old, huge washout that has completely eradicated the trail. There are no alternative routes through the gully. You must climb straight up the edge of the landslide over slick, muddy, roots and rocks only to end up back to the "main" cemetery trail.
Not worth it.
But is is a great park and we love exploring the area...just stick to the main trails. :)

Even though Franklin Ghost Town is a state park, the parking lot is on private property. Therefore, there is a $5 fee to park. A Discovery Pass will not be usable. Once you park, you will see the entrance to the state park at the south end of the parking lot.
This is a great rainy day hike. The only mud can be found exploring side trails. We were able to walk 6 miles through the trails that were old roads without getting muddy. There were six cars in the lot when we arrived and when we left. We saw only two other groups. This is a trail that is easy to physically distance.
