Lord Hill was lovely today. Picked this trail because it's easy to get to, the dogs love it, and has great coverage when it rains. It sprinkled on and off but the raindrops never made it through the thick canopy. Just sounded like rain on your tent.
Someone has done a lot of drainage work lately and the spots that used to be muddy are looking really good. Thank you!!
The frogs by the beaver pond were so loud they almost sounded like cows mooing. Almost stepped on a big one on the Red Barn trail. He was so still and his camouflage worked like an invisible cloak. My two dogs walked within inches of him and never even saw him. Other wildlife included lots of singing birds, pilliated woodpecker, sapsuckers, bald eagle, snails and a million black slugs.
3 hours in the park, only saw 2 other couples. Lots of room to spread out here.
Trail had a good amount of mud and horse poop. We made a big mistake by not printing out the map and instead relying on the one at the start of the trail. We got lost very quickly, though it wasn't long until we hooked up with the main trail and were able to take that back.
Beaver lake is definitely no longer a lake. We thought it was a field for a long time, but on closer inspection we realized it is a marsh.
Oh, and make sure you don't have to use the port-a-potty when you get there!

Green, green, and more green. All this spring rain is working magic on the park.
A mountain bike club was finishing up a group ride as I arrived. They looked a little muddy but satisfied with their ride. There's lots of room to spread out here. I hiked about 8 miles and only ran into 4 groups. .
There was a crew working on the midway path today. Nice job with the gravel! I could have used a machete on a couple trails. The plants are really taking over but it just made for more fun.
A number of cute little brown mice crossed our path today. Mice and slugs and lots of birds singing. Love it!
