Perfect for anyone with not much going on today. Its very close to Snohomish and Monroe. Wide trails lead you up to a big lookout rock overlooking part of 522. Some trails are pretty steep and could be a tad challenging however it is a great place to take a nice and peaceful trip through the woods

Walked the Beaver Lake and Temple Pond loop and up to the view point at Lord Hill park early on day light savings Sunday 3/11/12. The birds were really active, red winged black birds at Beaver Lake, an owl of some sort and a big raven who I startled while it was sitting on a crag out in Temple Pond, . Quite a few folks arriving as I was coming back to the trail head, (many with off leash doggies running all over - tsk tsk.) The trails were quite wet but you could tell the trail crews had been working hard to open drainage slots and all the blow down had been cleared - thanks much.

Beware of: trail conditions

Decided to celebrate my 36th birthday with a hike, but I got a bit of a late start so I decided to stay close and visit Lord Hill Park. The park was hit hard by last month's storms but the ongoing efforts of maintenance crews is evident as all of the trails I hiked on today were clear of blowdowns. There were a couple of trees I noticed still hanging over the trails on the Main Trail (see picture) and the Temple Pond Loop trail. The route I took today included the Main Trail, Pipeline Trail, a bit of the Quarry Trail area, and the Temple Pond Loop. The Main Trail and Pipeline Trail have areas of significant mud and standing water on the trail at this time, but the Temple Pond Loop is relatively mud free and in good condition. The area around the Quarry Trail is in good shape but is not well signed from what I could see and it would be easy to get disoriented here if you do not have a map of the area. I figure my route totalled around 7 miles of hiking. Not a bad way to spend a birthday!

Did about an hour on Lord Hill trails and they are almost ALL clear, including Temple Pond loop. Only blowdowns we came across, over the trail, was on the middle to lower portion of the Pipeline trail. THANKS SO MUCH to all who worked so much to do that work. In seven years of hiking up there, I have never seen so many blowdowns. Thank you again for keeping this great area accessible, especially this time of year.

Beware of: snow conditions

I enjoy hiking Lord's Hill during the winter season, as the low elevation usually leaves it snow free. This week, not all of the snow from our recent snowmageddon had melted, especially in the numerous shady areas. I was surprised to see the number of trees down, however. The main trail had been cleared and the Pipeline trail was fairly clear. Aside from these two trails, every other trail had so many downed trees it was more like hurdling than hiking! It looks like it will take a fair amount of time and labor to repair these trails
