Solo snowshoe trip to the cabin, trails in great shape and easy to follow. From the upper parking lot, you cross road and head up trail 130, follow to the picnic shelter at Bald Knob. Cross the open area, and at the road look for trail 130 sign to continue on, following this trail the rest of way to cabin. Beautiful Friday night on the mountain!

Windy, snowing, and 23 degrees but loved it! Nice hike up to the CCC cabin. FYI -the cabin door is locked. Started on Trail 131 at North Mt. Spokane Park Drive. Followed the trail to Trail 130 at North Summit Road (which is closed for the winter) and then followed Trail 130 to the CCC cabin.

Six clever Spokane Mountaineers met for our first hike of 2020 at the snowmobile parking lot on Mount Spokane. There was much discussion of the original plan to hike to the summit of the mountain. Considering the windy and foggy conditions, we postponed a decision until we reached Bald Knob. Once there, we chose to hike to the CCC Cabin on trail 130. Given the clouds, there was no view, and we would miss the majority of the wind. As we hiked back, we met some of the group that had attempted or even summited this morning. The report of the weather at the top and the lack of hot chocolate at the Vista House confirmed that we made the right decision.
We hiked the new trail 131, and there are great tracks to follow now. Some folks wandered around and possibly attempted to find the steep old trail. Don’t follow their tracks. Follow the blue diamonds for a better hike.

I started this hike at the parking lot below Summit Road and began the ascent towards Bald Knob Campground. The trails were in bad shape from having been frozen rapidly. Ice crystals shot up out of the ground, making walking on trail a little difficult as the ice would occasionally collapse. It would be really easy to twist an ankle on this terrain. There is a huge tree down across the trail once on trail 130 just after Deadman Creek before the campground. I was able to climb over it, but had to get my pants wet in the process. After the campground, continuing on trail 130 to the Cooks Cabin, the trail was a mix of snow covered, ice crystals and mud. My goal was to get to the summit, but my pace was slow and I was running out of daylight. I turned around at the Cooks Cabin, hiked back to the campground and had lunch. From there I walked Summit Road back to my car, where I left my trekking poles in the parking lot. Let me know if you find them.

On a beautiful almost spring evening, several of us followed a park ranger on snowshoes to the CCC Cabin on trails 131 and 130, returning after a snack at the cabin via the groomed snowmobile route on the road. It was good we followed the groomed trail back, as we arrived back at the parking lot after dark.
Trails 131 and 130 are well used to Bald Knob. Beyond that, the route is difficult to find, and there are many opinions found in the snow of the proper route. We left fine tracks almost all the way to the cabin, until we went off trail and took a shortcut over the final rise.
We enjoyed the colors in the sky from the front of the cabin before wisely heading for the Kit Carson Loop Road to the groomed summit road back to the parking lot.
