The trail is in great shape. Be prepared for a steady climb. The veiws are awesome at the summit. Another great day on the trail.

This trail is in great condition and is perfect for anyone who wants a short workout. It's not long, but it's definitely steep! There's no snow, and the trail head is accessible to any vehicle. As mentioned in previous trip reports, the gate to Mt. Walker Road is closed, but it's just a short 1/4 mile walk to the trail head, and there's a space off the main highway for parking. The views at the top are spectacular with snowy peaks to the North and a sweeping view of the valley and the Puget Sound to the East.

The gate is closed to the trail so you have to park right along 101. Not to worry, there is plenty of shoulder space. However, this adds about .25 mile to and from the trail head. Trail was very well maintained with no obstacles to worry about. A lot of short switch backs to the top. A pretty steady climb to the top. If your not in good shape do not recommend this hike. No traction needed but trekking poles would definitely be handy if you have them. A lot of Gray Jay's at the top and they are stunningly beautiful. You can tell people feed them because they fly right to you at the top looking for food. So I will say this. Yes, it is so tempting to feed them and try to get that "amazing" picture, but please don't. They become dependent on people for food and that is not good. I sat patiently watching them, but did not feed. Patience is they key. Good hike for dogs too (as long as they are in shape - would not bring puppies unless you plan on carrying them)

A couple of friends and I did the Mt Walker trail this morning. It was overcast and rainy but that didn't dampen our spirits. The trail winds up the mountain surrounded by forest, it's only at the top you really get a good view(if it's sunny). We got up top and we were just barely above the clouds on one side. We were able to see Mt Townsend and others but all other directions were shrouded in fog. The trail gains 1000' feet/mi so be prepared to hoof it up. Enjoy!

The gate for the trailhead is closed, but there is room by the gate for half a dozen or more cars, and the walk from there to the trailhead is very short. It was a slightly rainy day, but the trail was easy to navigate with little to no mud. In terms of wildlife there was one doe, and at the top there were several Grey Jays begging for a snack. You can also see the rhododendrons along the trail, some with buds already. The trail itself is a steady incline the majority of the time, but the viewpoint at the top was beautiful, even with the dense fog. Including the walk from the car, it was a total of 4.19 miles, 2,195 ft. It is a dog friendly hike, and no pass is required.
