Beaver Pond trail was one of many today. Port Gamble Forest is a regular winter hiking spot for us. This was the first time we have gone in late spring and were amazed at how lush it was. Arrived at the Bayview Trailhead at 2:30pm. Porta potty is available. Decided to run across the highway and check out Bluff Trail. Went down to the bay first to take in the views, then headed up the trail. It was beautiful. Lots of ferns and peekaboo views of the bay. Didn't encounter a soul the entire time. A hidden gem. Only down side was the highway noise. Went as far as when the trail takes a jog back towards the highway. We went left for a bit but it was overgrown with thorny berry bushes, so we turned around. Then headed for Beaver Pond trail. It too was beautiful. Lots of wildflowers right now. Starting to get a little overgrown between the first viewing platform and the second viewing area. Wanted to extend our hike a bit so we caught Springs to Lynx, then looped back on Ranger trail. It is undergoing some major renovations for mountain bikers at the moment. It's passable, just follow the marked path. Made it back to the car by 6pm. Encountered only about 10 people on the trails today. Most were mountain bikers. A welcome reprieve!

This trail system is super fun. We went to see the Beaver dams but ended up on several different trails, exploring what was there. Did make it to the pond but water was calm. Lots of maps to help when you begin to feel a little lost & GREAT hikers happy to help. Logging roads were very well maintained and trails were clearly marked. Looks like a mountain bikers paradise too. Did not see any wildlife, but did see prints in some of the more muddier areas. We'll be back to see what the other trails have to offer.
