Lovely peaceful forest hike with very few people on the trail. Cloudy in the morning so views were limited. If you go early, you’ll have to park just outside the park. Lots of bleeding hearts, redwood violets, salmon berry with trilliums holding on

Began from Rattlesnake Lake @1230 w/ the majority of hikers stopping at Rattlesnake Ledge. I ran into 3 other people as I hiked to Rattlesnake Mtn-Middle Peak. Trail was clear with only 2 spots with snow patches. Overall, nice sunny day with minimal foot traffic.

Now snow free with just a patch at the top and trail is in good shape with just a couple muddy spots that are easy to avoid. Got lucky with views and beat the rain by hiking early today. Had a completely dry trip with the first drops falling as we were putting stuff in the car!

Beware of: trail conditions

Previous days of 70 degree weather melted all the snow and left ample puddles & mud.  Only a few inches of crunchy snow was encountered at Grand Prospect (see picture). Parking lot was open. Vault toilets were open & stocked. Oh, yeah - we encountered a fairy nymph along the trail, too 😉

We arrived at the trailhead around 11:30 am. Access to the parking lot was blocked, everyone was parking up & down Winery Rd. The trail was clear until about a mile past Stan's Overlook, then the trail was covered in fresh snow. We turned around as we didn't have waterproof shoes.
