Backpacked this trail with my toddler. Got the the trailhead at 7:45 am on Saturday. The lot was full but I found parking on the side of the road not too far away. A couple Forest Service workers arrived at the same time and were checking for parking passes and cleaned the bathroom. We lucked out with a spotless, fully stocked potty before hitting the trail - thank you!

The trail was pretty quiet on our way up to Olallie. There were a few folks fishing and hanging out at Talapus where we stopped for a break. The trail is in excellent shape.l and really beautiful. I see why this is a popular one! When we got to Olallie, we spent a long time looking for an open camping spot. There were a few at the far end of the lake tucked in the trees but we ended up snagging a small one on the water after some day hikers were done swimming and hanging out there. If your are looking for some peace and quiet, this probably isn’t the trail for you. We saw countless hikers and backpackers and the lake was pretty noisy - we had great time knowing that this would probably be the case. Everyone was respectful of each other’s space. We had a nice time playing and swimming. Everything quieted down around 8 pm when it was mostly just people staying the night at that point.

We hit the trail at 9 am for our hike back. The first 1.5 miles back to Talapus were quiet and we only passed a few folks. Once we hit Talapus, a little after 10 am, the trail got VERY busy. We were pulling over for people to pass every few minutes. The parking lot was full and cars were parked for about 1/2 a mile (or more?) down the road.

First time to this trail and lake. Got to the trail head around 7:30 am and there were already 30 cars lined onto the road. The trail was in good condition. Heavily traveled. We left the lake around 12pm as there were no less than 25 people standing around the lake near us. On the way down the trail we passed 145 adults not including children.
The trail and area are NW beautiful. The amount of people on the this trail was too many for trying to get away from people.

This is a gorgeous hike. The train is in great condition and well maintained. This is a moderate hike, very shady and has a nice gradual incline. Both the lakes are calm and beautiful!

We thoroughly enjoyed the huckleberries and frequently stopped to snack on them. So yummy!

No bugs, so the hike felt great!

Such a great day to be on the trail!

Well maintained trail and a fairly easy to moderate hike. Around 15 mins of drive on unpaved forest road.

Got to the trailhead around 8:45am and the parking lot was full. We parked down the road (probably less than a quarter mile) which was fine because getting out was way faster as the road was packed when we left at around 11:30am. Cars were easily parked farther than a mile down the road at that time.

The trail is in good condition, both lakes were warm enough to swim for longer than a quick dip, and there were no bugs. Trail is well covered by trees most of the way so not too hot. My watch final stats were 6 miles round trip and 1200 ft elevation on the dot. Overall super nice day - would like to come back to camp!
