Tarbell Trail to Hidden Falls is my go to local hike/run as it provides good single track, decent ascent/descents, views, flowers, old and new growth, and hidden falls waterfall. Getting to the trail head is easy as it's only ~40 minutes from Vancouver. While any car can make it I suggest using caution around the correction center and the rest of the way up due to pot holes.

Finally got out on this Saturday before Memorial Day to get a hike in. This was close to home for us and good to break in for the season. The Tarbell trail is on DNR land and a Discover Pass required at the trailhead.
Hiked to Hidden Falls then back and cut off on the new Silver Shadow Trail that shortcuts to the final 2 miles of the Tarbell. About 14 miles with the detour to get back to the car.
Trail is clear of brush and obstacles but very muddy. Likely to be in this condition till we have a couple weeks of dry weather.
This section of the Tarbell trail is a nice relaxing walk. Not too much up or down. A few switchbacks near the falls. You will wander in and out of clear cuts at various stages of regrowth. Here you can get some decent views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
Hidden Falls was better than I expected. This time of year the water volume is spectacular. Pleased we got out here even with the mud and rain showers.

Hiked the Tarbell trail to Hidden Falls starting at the Tarbell Trailhead.  Total distance about 10.88i with 1200' elevation gain.  It was raining the entire trip so I only saw two other people on the trail.  The first .5 miles of the trail is basically a small stream while raining.  It could use some new drain dips!  At about 1 mile there is a small tree across the trail about 10" in diameter.  Could be removed with a corona saw.  Mile marker 1.5 has broken off and is in need of repair.  Near the connection with the Chinook trail some brushing could be done to push back the thimble berries.  Overall a nice hike but the views were hidden in the clouds.

We started at the Grouse Vista Trailhead, which, by around 10 AM, was as packed as a summer weekend. We were headed out and back to Hidden Falls, assuming most people were going to Silver Star (they must have been as we encountered few hikers on our route).  The first couple of miles of the trail is forested, damp, and filled with a variety of wildflowers, including yellow violets, trillium, and marsh marigolds. Evidence of the forthcoming iris blooms in a month or so, are everywhere.  The Rock Creek Falls was every bit as beautiful, although not nearly as big, as Hidden Falls.

The trail begins ascending quickly, just past Rock Creek Falls and doesn't let up until the high point, about 3000 feet.  For the most part, the trail is in very good condition.  A few smaller trees across the trail were quickly dispatched by my hiking partner.  As you make your way into the clear cut, the trail becomes more rough and covered with loose rock, and sometimes obscured, but fairly easy to follow. There are I think 3 road crossings, two of which were obvious but one did require a little searching for the trail on the other side. The 180 degree views from the clear cut were truly stunning, due to blue skies and windy conditions.

Round trip distance approximately 11.5 miles.

9/2/19 hiked to hidden/linton falls which is an 11.20 mile hike with 1512 elevation gain. Started at 7am first car in the lot, saw 3 hunters on a logging road near the first clear cut area. Trail is a bit overgrown in areas, but in great shape. To linton falls is 5.6 miles one way. Beautiful falls and a must see even in summer. The forrest that surrounds the falls is beautiful as well. Didn't see anyone till a mile from the parking area at about 11:40am, a family of 5. 3 other cars in the lot when I left. Bathroom was pretty stinky even at 7am.
