Two corrections on current WTA directions from the south for first-timers. 1. “…Head north on SR-525 for 22 miles to a junction with SR-20.” 2. “…right turn onto Cemetery Road. Drive to the end of Cemetery Road to the Prairie Overlook trailhead.” Directions from the north bypassing Mukilteo Ferry: 1. "From I-5, take Exit 230 and head west on Highway 20. At mile 12 (Sharpes Corner – Highway 20 South starts here), turn left and drive south along Whidbey Island through the town of Oak Harbor. Approximately 16 miles from turnoff." 2. "Continue on Highway 20 for another 9 miles and turn right onto Sherman Road." 3. "Turn right onto Cemetery Road. Drive to the end of Cemetery Road to the Prairie Overlook trailhead." Holy moly, windy afternoon! Our third visit here and the windiest yet. Parked at the Prairie Overlook lot, strong wind was immediately felt the minute pups and I stepped out of the car. We walked past the additional parking lot toward Prairie Ridge Trail. Sun shone through thick , broken clouds just as we got on the trail. Views to Port Townsend and parts of northeastern Olympic Peninsula were great at the junction with Bluff Trail, perfect vantage point for a photo op. Fort Casey Historical State Park few miles south was also visible. From here, we made a right onto Bluff Trail and followed it northwestward like both times before. Totally lucked out with the weather, as forecast predicted 70% chance precipitation here, and snow and rain all of the Cascade crest. Trail traced along edge of bluffs next to the forest and overlooked the entire one-mile stretch of Perego's Lagoon. At northwest end of lagoon trail made its descent. Several new “private property beyond this point” signs had been placed nearby since our last visit in January. We were down on the beach just two or three switchbacks later. Water level was higher than usual with not much land area left to stroll. Wind grew stronger by the water, at times rather uncomfortable. Fortunately I found momentary relief behind a big log few yards from the water. Pups seemed too preoccupied with chasing each other and chewing on sticks to pay any attention to the wind. Great late afternoon views out to Puget Sound, sun rays pierced through cumulus clouds by the Olympic Mountains. Normally we would make a loop of the hike by walking along the beach, going back up to the trail junction through south parking lot to hike out. This time I opted to go back on the trail for a less windy return.

Perfect Saturday for Ebey's Landing! The trail was in great condition, the weather was great, and lots of friendly people were on the trail! It's a popular place for sure. Still plenty of parking, though. Maybe odd for some folks, but there is an older cemetery right next to trail head. I would recommend a walk through the cemetery as there were some historical things to see!

Lovely day, lovely hike. The 200 ft elevation gain predominantly from beach up to the bluff trail in .3 of a mile. Taking loop counterclockwise would be easier.

It was a gray day and my companion was not wanting to hike in the rain, so the compromise was to hike anyway, but somewhere close to an escape point. Whidbey Island offered hiking close to a small island town with good restaurants, so off we went! The Ebey state park is scattered on a couple of entrances. The Ebey's landing was our favorite part, with the butte view being quite good despite the cloud cover. We could see Mount Rainier in the distance, indicative of a high cloud ceiling, and we could see the sun shining on it... Clearly it was sunnier down south, while up here on the island we were having clouds and spurts of rain... Well, sometimes hiking in cloudy condition just makes you appreciate the moment more! Ferries passing by, Olympic range looking dramatic, Mount Rainier being epic, etc... On the return back on the beach, there was this foul smell that was quite strong... rotting fish transported by birds in the inner pond maybe? We are note quite sure. We completed our day in Coupeville for dinner and it was quite enjoyable. Gray day hiking... success!

Walked the full Ebey's Landing loop out along the bluff and back around past to Perego's Lagoon and then finishing down the beach. Trails are in great shape, nicely brushed back and no issues. The wildflowers are pretty much gone but you can listen to the seed pods crinkle and pop in the sun as you walk along. A discovery pass is needed to park. An outhouse is available at the parking lot along Hill Rd on the water. The views across the water are spectacular and there were hardly anybody else out even on a Saturday morning. A little slice of heaven. https://www.nps.gov/ebla/index.htm
