It was a gray day and my companion was not wanting to hike in the rain, so the compromise was to hike anyway, but somewhere close to an escape point. Whidbey Island offered hiking close to a small island town with good restaurants, so off we went!
The Ebey state park is scattered on a couple of entrances. The Ebey's landing was our favorite part, with the butte view being quite good despite the cloud cover. We could see Mount Rainier in the distance, indicative of a high cloud ceiling, and we could see the sun shining on it... Clearly it was sunnier down south, while up here on the island we were having clouds and spurts of rain... Well, sometimes hiking in cloudy condition just makes you appreciate the moment more! Ferries passing by, Olympic range looking dramatic, Mount Rainier being epic, etc...
On the return back on the beach, there was this foul smell that was quite strong... rotting fish transported by birds in the inner pond maybe? We are note quite sure.
We completed our day in Coupeville for dinner and it was quite enjoyable. Gray day hiking... success!
