Beware of: trail conditions

With a rebreak in the weather promising a bit of sunshine between fronts, I decided that I was about time to get hiking season started. Where to go? Well, this time of year is always perfect for a good Puget Sound hike. Ebey's Landing, here I come! It was a little nippy, so I was all bundled up at the start of the hike. Mt. Baker and the Cascades were clearly visible in all their splendor. I did the loop starting with the bluff. There was plenty of mud and some slippery spots on the bluff from the recent rain. But, golly, it sure was beautiful, with views out over the sparkling waters of Admiralty Inlet to the Olympic Mountains. I dropped down to the beach, where the water gently lapped the shore in the glistening sunshine. What a day!

Needing to burn off a little Superbowl tension, we picked a hike with a turnoff on Sherman Rd. and of course took a picture of the 12th man. Nice weather and great views of the Olympic mtns surrounded by clouds. No problems with the trail. Try to hit the beach part when the tide is low for easier walking. The parking lot at the lower end was full and cars were parked along the road, but even so hikers were spread out and the trail did not feel crowded. Pictures posted

My favorite “bring your out-of-state guest” trail is still awesome. Even on a foggy day like today. Four of us started the loop at 10:30 and finished it at 12:30. It was damp and foggy, but pleasantly crispy. The first view of Peregos Lake was stunning as always. When we got down to the sea level, we took the path on the lake side and then took to on the beach. We only saw a few hikers, but there were quite a few by the time we were done. The trail is in a great condition. The fog didn’t really go away until we got off a ferry back in Mukilteo. Maybe we should have started a couple of hours later, but still, it was a brilliant hike. A glass of Loganberry wine at Greenbank Farm topped the cake. By the way, I lost my Garmin GPS on the ridge section of the loop. I’d really appreciate it if you let me know if you happened to come across it.

This is a really nice winter hike/walk for a sunny day. No snow involved and the views are gorgeous. Not much elevation and thus you can make the round trip in about 2 hours. I would recommend heading there in the afternoon so that the sun has burned through the fog. Pics - http://sdrv.ms/1fh5mip

Walked the loop at Ebey's Landing up over the bluff and back down the trail along the side of Perego's Lake Saturday morning. The trail is in great shape - trees and native rose shrubs nicely brushed back. There are several new areas where the hillside is slumping - wouldn't be surprised we loose the north most turn of the old switchback down to the beach this winter. The views were as awesome as always. If you have never done this relatively easy, close in hike, put it on your list.
