I had a lovely hike to Lena Lake today. The first 1.5 miles of trail were dry. There was intermittent thin snow and water on the trail until 2.5 miles in, after which there was more consistent thin snow or water on the trail until reaching the lake. I used trail runners and was able to keep my feet fairly dry just stepping on rocks and roots in the wet areas. I put on microspikes sometime after 2.5 miles just to make things easier on the soft wet snow sections, but plenty of people were hiking in just boots.
The road was ok for all vehicles (I think I saw one large pothole on my way out with the word hole in front of it - easy to avoid). The trailhead bathroom was open.

Arrived at the trailhead just after 8 to find 5-6 vehicles already in the lot. The pit toilets are in good shape, and even had tp (although I never count on that!).
The trail is clear and in generally good shape, although very wet, up to about 2 miles in. After that there are some areas where there is significant water over the trail and intermittent snow on the trail. The last approx. 1/2 mile is solid snow, very mushy.
I carried microspikes but never put them on. Recommend waterproof boots and trekking poles.

Forest road slushy up at the trailhead, but manageable. Arrived at 11:30 to snow/rain mix, turning to complete snow within the first 1/4 mile. After a mile, the trail became completely covered in snow, up over my hiking boots in some places. By mile 2, snow was calf-deep all the way to the lake. Glad I wore my tall gaiters! Pretty foggy, so not much for views. The silence and the falling snow definitely made for a relaxing, magical moment.
I noticed on the hike down that more of the trail was becoming visible, and the snow was changing to rain.

The trail was great; however there is a lot of water on it. There is also one small creek crossing so waterproof boots are highly recommended. There are intermittent snow patches but no need for microspikes.
Overall, a great day hike to a beautiful and serene Lower Lena Lake.

There was only one car when I arrived at 10:30 a.m. Two more joined shortly after I parked with a slow steady stream of hikers heading up while I was heading down. The road is in great condition along with the bathrooms (don't lock/lactch). The trail is holding up well in the deluge of water. It's not as bad as walking through a total creekbed like Lake 22, but it looks like higher up snow is melting fast and we had a lot of rain recently. Expect running water, most you can step on rocks to avoid...some you splash through no matter what. There's consistent easy to manage snow on the trail after the waterfall bridge near the lake. No spikes were needed. No flowers yet. The lake was vibrant and beautiful. Looked like two cars full of backpackers were heading up to camp out when I was leaving...not sure if they were hitting lower or upper Lena Lake. Happy trekking!
