Arrived at the trailhead at 8:30 on a soggy morning to find only two vehicles in the lot. There are some significant potholes in the last 1.5 miles to the TH, but easily avoidable. The TH privy is clean and recently serviced.
This trail is known to be a wet trail, so I wore my waterproof boots, knowing it had been raining and was actually raining lightly all the up to the lake. There was virtually no water on the trail, and I would have been comfortable in my trail runner.
The trail is in excellent condition, with obvious trail maintenance done recently. Previous reports noted a downed tree across the trail just prior to the lake, but that has been removed. There were no obstacles on the trail as far as the overlook (my planned turn around point).
Huge shoutout to the Mt. Rose Trail Crew. You do amazing work!
Flowers are starting to bloom, but a ways away from the full flower show. Trillium are past on the lower elevations but still a few at lake elevation. Rhodies are just starting to bloom but no sign yet of the fawn Lillie’s we usually see along this trail.

Arrived to a mostly full lot at 1230, but most of the early crew were heading down at this point. Lots of flowers blooming lower down. the few rhodies on the trail are getting close to blooming. As the last report said, there is a tree across the trail which is a little tricky to navigate, otherwise no issues. Enjoyed our time at lunch rock and we were visited by a duck. New one for me.

Minor potholes, but easy to avoid. Fairly large tree across one of the switchbacks that’s a little tricky to navigate if it’s raining. At the fork in the trail leading to the lake or lunch rock, stay left. You’ll come to another fork about a quarter mile in. Taking the right one toward the brothers and Lena lake campground takes you right to lunch rock. There’s also “better” access to the lake at this point.

The trail is in such good shape! There have been many improvements to reduce short-cutting the switchbacks, which i really hope people follow. The bridge crossings are spectacular, and "lunch rock" is an absolute highlight. Composting toilet at the lake still hasn't been repaired from misuse, and the TrailHead toilet was also a little gross. Please learn how to cathole if you relieve yourself elsewhere!

Arrived around 0800. The lot was already quite full, lots of overnighters and day hikers. There is one large pothole that is easily avoidable near the trail head parking. The road is paved.
The trail is fairly well graded, which makes the hike not feel very steep. Lots of erosion from individuals cutting switchbacks, as others have pointed out. There is quite a bit of trillium right now!
We arrived to the lower lake overlook in just over an hour. We heard from other hikers that snow started around 3k feet going to the upper lake and a few people said they turned around there.
Lots of hikers, overnighters and dogs on the way up as we came down. It took us just over 2 hours to complete 6.2 miles RT.
