Arrived at the trailhead at 8:30 on a soggy morning to find only two vehicles in the lot. There are some significant potholes in the last 1.5 miles to the TH, but easily avoidable. The TH privy is clean and recently serviced.
This trail is known to be a wet trail, so I wore my waterproof boots, knowing it had been raining and was actually raining lightly all the up to the lake. There was virtually no water on the trail, and I would have been comfortable in my trail runner.
The trail is in excellent condition, with obvious trail maintenance done recently. Previous reports noted a downed tree across the trail just prior to the lake, but that has been removed. There were no obstacles on the trail as far as the overlook (my planned turn around point).
Huge shoutout to the Mt. Rose Trail Crew. You do amazing work!
Flowers are starting to bloom, but a ways away from the full flower show. Trillium are past on the lower elevations but still a few at lake elevation. Rhodies are just starting to bloom but no sign yet of the fawn Lillie’s we usually see along this trail.
