This was a great hike for a cloudy day, even in the height of summer. The trail is shaded the entire way, and the falls are still full and beautiful. A lot of folks talk about how terrible French Creek Road is, but as someone that has spent a fair amount of time on FS roads, it's really not that bad. At only 3.7 miles, it's a short drive. There are a decent number of pot holes, but they all have soft edges and are easily navigable. Obviously, someone else's experience may not align with mine, but the only vehicle I would not take up the road would be a lowered one.

No pass required and no facilities at the trailhead, though there is a shared bathroom about a mile up French Creek Road. It is signed as the only one in the area, which was nice. We arrived at a half-empty parking lot around 9AM, and headed out after a hefty dose of bug spray. The trail to the first falls is wide and pleasantly rolling, though it becomes brushy with a few downed trees the further you go. My hiking buddy and I made it to the second falls and then turned back to make it a 5-miler day. We stopped at the first falls on the way back for a quick snack and some photos. Personally, I think the better view of the first falls is from the trail, so if the boot path to the river is a bit intimidating, you may not be missing much. It was particularly steep and slippery when I was on it, though heading back up was easier.

There are a ton of ripe thimbleberries, blueberries and red huckleberries that crowd along the trail, particularly after the first falls. We spent a lot of extra time standing around and snacking before heading back to the parking lot!

A great hike for a hot day — trail was mostly shaded & fairly cool, minimal elevation, and a couple opportunities to do quick hikes down to the river to dip your feet into some icy cold water. We had lunch on a rock next to the river at the second waterfall. The last couple miles were a little bushy (trail still clear but tall plants on either side narrowed the trail), so we ended up turning around a bit early & clocked 8 miles total. We only saw a few groups of people all day. Arrived around 930a and there were only a handful of cars, so easy parking.

As others noted, there are quite a few potholes on the road to the trailhead but our Subaru Outback was fine.

We arrived at the trailhead around 10:30 and there were four other cars.

We hiked with a baby and a toddler and I would say this is a very kid friendly hike. This trail is in great shape and the waterfall was lovely. We brought a hammock and set up by the river for some water play and a picnic lunch. There were some shady spots and our littles enjoyed throwing rocks in the river.

The road does have a lot of potholes but is manageable if you go slow. I drive a Rav 4 and got there just fine. I did see one dodge neon at the parking lot.

We got there around 1pm. Few cars. Enough parking. The first 1.5 miles to the first waterfall is mainly flat with some small elevation. The trail is well maintained. The next mile to the second waterfall is less trafficked and there were over grown bushes. Trail had more elevation but was still relatively easy. We turned around from here and got back by 4pm. Enjoyed some time down at each waterfall. A good portion of the trail edge is a cliff drop off but you don't really notice it unless you look
