The parking lot near the Bowman Bay campground is open. We walked out to Rosario Head. It's always a beautiful stroll. Looking back, we could see the elephant seal cow and calf on the grassy area by the picnic tables of the bigger parking lot. On our return we walked over the fenced off area to watch and listen to the seals. They were very vocal. that was an unexpected surprise.

Headed down to the south end of Bowman Bay from a pullout along Hwy 20. Tried to spot the nesting elephant seal from that end of the beach, where the trail was closed off, but no luck. We did notice people on the other end of the beach observing something we couldn't see, so we headed back up to the car, and drove to the upper parking lot on the north side of Bowman Bay. A short stroll towards the closed-off lower parking lot got us to a volunteer-staffed barrier with a clear view of the seal and its pup.

We started at Rosario Beach and hiked that loop before heading over to Bowman Bay. Due to the seal pup’s presence, the beach was blocked off and we had to take the detour to get to lighthouse point. This only added ~.33 more miles as you had to head up to the main road before catching back up with the trail. It was a beautiful day, slightly overcast but dry. According to my Apple Watch we gained a little under 1,000 feet overall. The trail was slightly muddy in some parts, but nothing to deter anybody. The views were beautiful.
