Beautiful day yesterday morning, got there around 9am and was the second car in the lot. This is a quick and easy hike with gorgeous views. I started from the Rosario head trailhead rather than Bowman bay, which only adds a bit of distance to the hike. After circling around Rosario head to take in the sights, you'll go into the woods and follow along the cliffs until it dips back down to Bowman bay. The trail is washed out for a bit here, but I just walked along the beach instead.

Cross Bowman bay at the sand bar and you'll start heading up towards lighthouse point. Lottie bay is to your left, I usually see a bunch of harbor seals here. There's a split in the trail near here, go either way to get to lighthouse point, I went clockwise this time. No significant incline either way so it doesn't matter which path you choose.

I didn't go to lighthouse point specifically since the tide was high and the path was underwater, but there are still tons of beautiful overlooks, including of the bridge.

A lot of interesting bird species were out - I spotted cormorants, mergansers, buffleheads, black scoters, and western grebes, along with a couple eagles and a pileated woodpecker. Not much in the ways of other wildlife.

One of my favorite places to go in Washington, including in the winter. I took the long way back to Seattle down Whidbey island and to the ferry to Mukilteo, which I would recommend. I got pie from Whidbey Pies in Langley that I enjoyed during the ferry ride, would also recommend.

Parked at Bowman Bay and headed towards Lighthouse Point. There is a sign indicating emergency trail closure because a little bridge over the marsh was damaged. You can still access Lighthouse Point by stepping onto the beach to bypass the bridge. We had no problem at high tide today.
Lots of mushrooms. It must have been even more impressive a couple weeks ago. Many are fading but still plenty of mushrooms with a view.
There were a couple of fallen trees and branches but nothing that my little old dog couldn’t jump over.
I drove home through La Conner and found one field of swans. Looking forward to more to come.

A cool and cloudy day at Deception Pass State Park on Fidalgo Island side. Fall is upon us so weather is changing dramatically and this area will get severe wind storms as we get closer to Winter. This area is beautiful and gets lots of visitors in the Summer but starts to thin out as Winter approaches. Only us die hards and locals will be here in Winter. Have hike here when its covered in Snow and it's a whole new experience. Lots of kayaking and fisherman go through this pass during the Salmon runs. This is the time to see Bald Eagles and if lucky Orcas might follow. It's well know since this area gets more visitors per year that Mount Rainier National Park. Checkout the video of this area linked below or checkout some of my 500 or so other videos I have done in Washington State and beyond on my Vimeo Channel below.

As always get out and see this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking!

Take Care,

Mike

After visiting nearby Sharpe Park I went to Rosario Head. The fog was still covering most of the area so just about anything beyond the headland was obscured. From there I went to Bowman Bay above Sharpe Cove and Bowman Bay. The tide was in so I climbed the short headland and did a counter clockwise loop around Reservation Head. As with other areas there are lots of various fungi. As far as fauna goes there were a couple chipmunks and sighting of a porpoise showing its fin while going in and out of the water against the outgoing tide. This time of year you will see that the arachnids have been busy. The webs were easy to spot with dew clinging to them.

The trails are in good condition although you will have to walk on the beach before gaining the headland over Bowman Bay as the washed out trail is still closed. Restrooms at the parking lot at both Rosario and Bowman.

Found a Discover Pass in the parking lot at Bowman Bay. No car in the lot matched the license plate on the pass. Please leave a comment if you think it might be yours. Otherwise, lovely hike for some fresh air on a smoky day.
