The trail is in good shape except for a few small trees blown down which you can step right over. There's no snow left at this time.

Trail is open and in very good shape. We took the more difficult route up and the easier one down. Balsam root are blooming, but not quite at their peak yet. It was VERY windy once we got out of the forest...bring a windproof fleece! We hiked relatively slow, it took us 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete the hike, including breaks. The views from the open meadows are fantastic! See more pictures at: http://www.elsnab.dk/thomas/06MAY2006.htm

Trail bearing right fine to the summit. Wildflowers spectacular. Phantom orchid stalks are up but too early for blossoms. No bugs yet

Trail in excellent condition. Flowers are blooming at the summit. Awesome sight!! Wear hiking boots 'cause it's steep and you need traction coming down the mountain.

Chose Dog Mountain to enjoy the wonders of spring on this glorious day. A long drive from Seattle, to be sure, but in the end good to experience something new. The top of Dog mountain affords lovely views of Mt.St. Helens and Mt. Hood, and the Columbia river valley. No snow and pretty wild flower and no water, either. It combines a walk in the trees with a bit of a ridge walk. It also provides a loop option. However, this great hike ain't a secret! Enjoy the spring!
