We would have rather been skiing, but we're not willing to face the melt-freeze boilerplate and the poor snow coverage. But who can let a beautiful day go to waste. Hiked up Little Si for the first time. The TH facilities are very nice and the tread was in excellent condition with little mud. Enjoyed the Boulder Garden Loop before continuing to the summit. Lots of families and dogs on the main trail. Temps in the shade were 53 deg. and at the summit, in the sun, a balmy 70 deg. Views are partial because of the trees. Stats for this version of the hike are 6 miles and +1,930' of gross elev. gain.

Despite lots of rain recently, this trail is in great shape. Nice trek for me and the Chi (my sometimes hiking companion, a long-haired Chihuahua). This is what I call a "burst hike"--bursts of effort followed by mellow, easy-going trail. It's fun to "summit" but the view at the top is sort of ho-hum. Yes, I'm spoiled as a Washington native. I would go again if I'm looking for a quick hike with some good climbing, but the next time I'm in the area, I'll pay a visit to Little Si's big sister.

Little Si is a wonderful quick, close in, all season hike that gains an easy 1000 feet in 2.1 miles. The trail is very well maintained and appears to benefit from improvements year after year. The trailhead is right off the Mt. Si road, is paved, and is equipped with a clean outhouse. After a short climb, the trail wanders through the forest between Little and Big Si where an abundance of ferns thrive. Around the north side the trail climbs gently up to a nice rocky peak with views over North Bend, Rattlesnake Ridge and up to the Haystack on Big Si. An additional nature trail off to the side wanders through a boulder field and connects to the old Big Si trail. There are 3 blowdowns just beyond .5 miles from the trailhead. The ground is bone dry and rock hard. No snow or water.

Hiked with some new women today from a meetup group. Awesome people! There are so many cool ladies that share my love of hiking.. Trail is in good shape, it was sprinkling at times. Some decent views over north bend. We took the Bolder Garden loop on the way out. It was more ups than we hoped, but just got that much more of a workout. Great day out on the trails.

We arrived at the trail head at about 6:45pm and made it to the summit in 50 minutes, going at a reasonable pace. Most of the climbing in this hike is towards the end although there is a little climb at the start. This is a lovely hike and it was nice to see the difference in the tree colors on our descent when the sun was beginning to set. We descended in about 40 minutes.
