- Drove from Seattle to do the hike around the falls, topped with an overnight at the campground located at the falls

- Absolutely stunning views and worth taking a detour to visit on the way through Eastern Washington

- Recommend visiting in the spring when the surrounding fields are still green

- Trail around the falls was precarious. We brought out dog, but ended up leaving him in the car while we did the loop since it became obvious pretty early on that this would be too dangerous for him to navigate.

- Areas of the trail are very narrow and the drop-off is very steep

- Campground at falls is not desirable. Essentially on top of a parking lot. Wouldn't recommend staying unless absolutely have to...

I finally made it! Despite a road grader that needed a little more room than I realized (resulting in me backing all the way back to the entrance to get out of his way), I finally got to see Washington state’s official waterfall. And it’s pretty impressive. Also impressive are the social trails that are so established everyone thinks they’re official. State parks has put up signs emphasizing your responsibility for using them – if you need to be rescued on one of them, it’s at your expense. There were lots of people down near the river, but luckily no rescues while I was there. Based on the state of those social trails, the parks do see that there’s a desire for trails here, so they’re entering a planning process for the system. Let them know what you’d like to see developed at Palouse Falls – their number is 509-337-6457 One last tip – look out for rattlesnakes. One warned me where he was when I walked by on my circumnavigation of the upper viewing platform, but I definitely wouldn't have seen him without the warning.

This was an amazing hike! We hiked to the top of the Falls. Saw marmots, lots of birds, and rattle snakes. It was approximately 3.5 miles. Parts of the hike were a bit steep and there was loose gravel. I recommend hiking boots for better traction over the rocks. Don't forgot your Discovery Pass or you can buy one at the parking lot. Great picnic area. I want to come back and hike to the bottom of the falls. So beautiful and peaceful!
