I finally made it! Despite a road grader that needed a little more room than I realized (resulting in me backing all the way back to the entrance to get out of his way), I finally got to see Washington state’s official waterfall. And it’s pretty impressive.
Also impressive are the social trails that are so established everyone thinks they’re official. State parks has put up signs emphasizing your responsibility for using them – if you need to be rescued on one of them, it’s at your expense. There were lots of people down near the river, but luckily no rescues while I was there.
Based on the state of those social trails, the parks do see that there’s a desire for trails here, so they’re entering a planning process for the system. Let them know what you’d like to see developed at Palouse Falls – their number is 509-337-6457
One last tip – look out for rattlesnakes. One warned me where he was when I walked by on my circumnavigation of the upper viewing platform, but I definitely wouldn't have seen him without the warning.
