NOTE: At the usual access point, a recently installed Private Property Gate and Sign clearly proclaimed no trespassing! We had read about this on NW hikers so had our Plan B ready. We drove up FS road 4305 to 2500' and parked the car at a wide spot off the road. We walked the gated road, then adventured cross country in the ankle deep snow, crossing Davis Creek, and continuing to diagonal until we met the Hex Mountain road - approximately 1 mile from car to road. From there it was straight-forward from road to trail to summit and back.
We carried snowshoes but did not use them. One of us used microspikes on the way down and one did fine without. Spectacular day with cloud level at 3500 and beautiful crystals covering all.
Sadly, as soon as more snow falls, it will be problematic finding parking and access to this popular snowshoe destination. We wondered yet again how private property owners can suddenly block off access to such special places.

Hiked up to summit with snowshoes and spent night about a mile below the summit before heading down in the morning.
The trail overall was very evenly graded, great for snowshoes. We got lucky with an incredible sunset at the summit!
It snowed about 2 inches overnight, and there was about 2 feet of snow near the top where snow drifts had piled up. The trail could be hard to follow without tracks in the snow.

Unfortunately on the way down my daypack broke and my grand dad’s watch that I had on me fell out :(
Quite a bummer, doubt if I’ll see it again… :( but here’s to hoping.🤞
If anyone finds it and returns it to me I’ll be forever grateful!

5 of us and whippet hiked up to celebrate my son's 30th birthday The trail was dry with some downed wood in a few places that you can pretty easily step over. The gravel can be a bit slippery coming down. Lots of wildflowers blooming. Very little shade, so I'd go soon!

I hiked this trail on Wednesday, May 22. There is not a parking lot at the trailhead, and the private road entrance is blocked with a gate an a "no parking" sign. So, we parked on the main road. Aside from my friend and me, there was not another person on the trail the entire time we were hiking. The trail is a combination of dirt roads and trails. I really recommend downloading a trail map for navigation, because it's easy to miss the trail when going back and forth from dirt road to trail. There were quite a few downed trees to hike around/over, and there was intermittent snow towards the top, but not difficult to cross. The weather was overcast and windy, with a few sun breaks, so our view at the top was not as great as it could have been. Still great exercise and was fun to have some snow flurries at the top.
