We started out on this loop hike, very quickly encountered 3 volunteers in their WTA hats hard at work constructing a trail bridge - Bravo! The trail from the parking lot up to the viewpoints along the ridge is in excellent condition. Following the route is easy - good signage at several locations. Views from the overlooks are outstanding, even on a cloudy day. We continued past the Nancy Russell overlook, following the trail downhill through the highway underpass. One note - from this point on, the trail is both steeper and rougher. Parts of the lower return route are quite rocky, with occasional steep spots. For hikers with younger children, it may be best to go out and back to the overlooks rather than making the full loop. Our GPS units show the full loop hike as 7.0 miles. THEM, Olympia.

CONSTRUCTION DELAYS POSSIBLE Please be advised we are going to be installing a Bridge at the creek crossing just past the trailhead this coming Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (August 22-25). We may have to halt trail traffic for short periods of time as we drag a 20 ft. log down the trail and raise it onto its foundation. The process will involve a cable hauling system that has multiple danger zones so we can't have people hiking past while the log is in motion and under tension. The best times to hike during the construction will be early in the morning on Monday before we begin moving. And (probably) after Tuesday by when we should have things fairly secure and a temp bypass bridge in place. Thanks to the Cape Horn Conservancy and WTA volunteers plus many private donors who made this project possible!

Thanks to the efforts of the Cape Horn Conservancy a new log footbridge is scheduled to be built near the Salmon Falls Trailhead the week of August 22-25. While CHC has provided the coordination, funding and leadership on this project, WTA is lending a hand with some technical support and elbow grease. As it is a busy trail we're doing the construction on weekdays. Registration is available for people to lend a hand with this and several other trail projects in the vicinity - check out the work party list on our website.

Great hike on this stellar trail. Some recent trail maintenance was noticeable - thank you! Great views of the gorge. We did the trail in a clockwise route. We saw several Peregrine Falcons flying and one sitting on a tree branch.

Great day for a day hike on Cape horn. It was a bit windy and by the time I made to the top the wind was very strong but still a very enjoyable hike. The trail was a bit muddy in certain areas but very well maintained. Only saw I log on the trail and another that was leaning against a tree so caution with that.
