What a gem of a state park. Lovely forested trails with lots of choose your own adventure options with the various trail spurs. Trail was still quite muddy and puddle-y but still totally navigable. WTA has resources on how to hike around horses which I found helpful before hitting the trail, and there are also signs at the trailhead about etiquette. Also you can buy your annual discover pass in the parking lot!

Visited one of my favorite trails next door to say goodbye to a friend who is moving tomorrow. The 3.5 miles we ran were really just a nice excuse to hang.
The inner ring of parallel parking spaces were about 75% full when I arrived at 5:45 p.m. There were two cars parked outside on the street as well. Keep in mind Google will tell you the park closes at 5:00 p.m., but summer hours at the trailhead indicate a closing closer to 8.
Trails were looking good across the board, but with the occasional muddy area or spot marred by horse doodoo. I highly recommend somebody get these equestrians a FaciliTree for their horses' needs.
Came home to a delicious morel quiche made by my partner, pulling from last weekend's foray. Life is good in Western WA.
Distance: 3.57 miles
Elevation gain: 26 feet
Moving time: 44:24

Did the Trellis loop (2m) and 1/2 of the Raven Loop (1m) today, during a forecasted break from the rain. As usual, trails were well maintained- at the trailhead there is a warning that a black bear was spotted & likely still in the area (don’t know how old this is) and on the Trellis Trail there were several warnings about barrel (?) owls swooping down. Love this new-to-me park- about a 20 min drive - nice to switch things up when you want to get out but don’t have the time/energy to go too far. Next time I want to try the Cougar Loop which is 3.5 miles, the longest of the loops.
It was a lovely day to hike. The sun was shining, it was cool, and the air was fresh. We chose to take the Coyote Trail (3.5 miles) and the trails were all clear. There were patches of mud from the recent rain, but nothing that we couldn't easily skirt around. We encountered a few folks with horses and dogs, but otherwise, it was pleasantly unbusy. The parking lot is easy to navigate (don't forget your Discover Pass!) and the restrooms were clean. Be aware though that the water fountains are non-operable for the season, so bring your own water with you. All in all, a nice little park!
