I took an afternoon walk in Cowiche Canyon the last 2 days.  Yesterday I walked in from the west end down to bridge 4 and today I walked in from the east end up to bridge 7.  Both afternoons were sunny and warm.  The rabbitbrush is pretty much past and the sumac is getting past, but the other shurbs and trees are starting to color up.  In another week and a half it should be very nice in here.

Headed out for an after work run with my dog. We started at 6:30pm. There were a couple other cars at the Weikel TH and ran into the owners on the way out. The parking lot is pretty pothole-y but you can make it in a low clearance vehicle if you're going slow. There were lots of gnats throughout but mostly at the beginning. Nothing that was biting but they were getting in my nose and I think I got one stuck in my eye.

We walked/ran to the halfway point (past bridge 7?) and turned around. It was nearly dark by the time we got back so I was glad I brought my headlamp. The night critters were starting to come out and it was nice to listen to. Heard an owl hooting in the distance. The fall colors are out. Go now if you want to see them.

I finally needed something more than just a walk around the house, so this afternoon I donned my N95 mask and headed off to Cowiche Canyon for a short walk.  I started at the west end and walked down to bridge 3 and back.  It was smoky, but the rabbitbrush is in bloom and the sumac is red.  It will just get more & more colorful in here over the next month.  Let's hope we can get out and enjoy it!

We loved this almost completely flat 3mi each way trail over a former railway (6mi). Great interpretive signage to describe geology, plants and animals along the way! We took it very easy and made about three hours round trip. Some mosquitos - advise repellent, some bees. Lots of birds and so many flowers!
