Arrived at the trailhead around noon on Saturday. There was plenty of parking available and trail was in great condition. There were only small patches of snow and very little mud.
I hadn't spent time in this region and didn't know what to expect so I was quite taken aback by how stunning the landscape is. The Columbia River Basalt and the Tieton Andesite make for some fascinating rock formations.
We also visited the Wilridge Vineyard and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of their tasting room.

On Wed I took an afternoon walk on the Cowiche Canyon Uplands from the Summitview trailhead. I walked up to Radio Flyer and followed this trail to the Lone Pine Trail which I walked down until I could see into the canyon. Most all of the fall color was gone at this end. I then walked back up the Lone Pine Trail to the South Summitview Trail and back to my truck. Then this afternoon I walked into the canyon from the Scenic Drive trailhead. I walked the East Uplands Trail to the canyon floor, then up to bridge 7 and back. Most all of the fall color was gone from this end of the canyon as well. Both afternoons were sunny and just a little cool.

I took a walk in Cowiche Canyon Sun afternoon from the east end. The color is probably peaking there right now, though some leaves were starting to drop. I was having so much fun taking pictures that I didn't even make it to the end of the Bypass Trail. Then this afternoon I took a walk in the canyon from the west end. There color here is a bit past its peak. Much of the red-osier dogwood and wild rose have dropped their leaves along with some of the water birch, but it's still very nice.

On Wed afternoon I walked Cowiche Canyon from the west end down to bridge 5 and back. The trees are nice and yellow, but there aren't as many shrubs right by the trail as there are at the east end, so I didn't think it was quite as good, but still very nice. Then this afternoon I took a walk at Snow Mtn Ranch. I walked west on the Gerry Oak Trail as far west as it goes, then followed a game trail further west through the brush to the elk fence and back. Once back on the main trail I walked east to its junction with the Entry Trail and then down to the Kiosk. From here I walked the Riparian Trail West out to the elk fence and back with a short side trip to the creek at the Butterfly Garden. The color is very nice, but will only get better over the next week or so as the oaks and cottonwoods continue to color up.
