Arrived around 1030 on a beautiful, sunny Sunday.  Found parking pretty easily, which surprised me (parking spaces were full but still lots of room alongside the road).  Someone had dumped what we think were crawdads at the trailhead. Weird and stinky.  The hike itself is a workout, so glad I had poles.  The shade kept it comfortable and I would love to see it when the rhodies are in bloom.  Not too busy on the trail and people were really good about masking up when passing.  Views at the top were stunning, could see the Olympics as clear as day, and Mt Baker off in the distance at the North Viewpoint.  It was a little hazy at the South Viewpoint, but could still see Mt. Rainier, Seattle, and Eagles flying overhead.  Lingered for a long time at the viewpoints before heading down.  Coming back down, I was really grateful for the poles as the trail, the loose dirt can get slippery.  Great day.

Hopefully it has been cleared up by now, but right at the entrance of the trailhead someone has clearly dumped a few pounds of shrimp/shrimp heads. Infuriating to say the least!

Other than that, the day was beautiful, the trail was free of snow and bugs. We got there early enough to beat the influx of others, making it a pleasant, socially distanced hike.

Warm spring day! Overdressed for this sustained climb, but shady canopies the entire way kept temps pleasant. Views of northeast Olympics, Baker, and Rainier, were certainly worth the effort.

Easy drive to the trailhead that any car can manage. The fallen tree near the top half of the hike was cleared, and the entire trail was mud, debris, and bug free. A few spots to sit and bathrooms at the top of the trail.

Poles are a good idea for the down trip, some of the switchbacks are steep and the trail has a light loose top layer. We made it fine without them, but it was a workout.

Great hike with one easy to climb over tree on trail. Popular so get there early. Folks were courteous & wore masks. Beautiful view of Olympics today
