I headed out to hike the 2.6 mile Loop Trail. Trail is in good condition from the north day use parking lot, along the bluff, and Marsh Trail. I was following the written instructions for this hike on the WTA Website. Tide was out and the walk and beach were awesome on this bright and sunny early March day. We had difficulty in figuring out the trail from the south end of the parking lot. Finally figured out that the small bridge we were supposed to cross is out of commission and that if you get around the bridge, shortly you will see that the Canyon Trail is closed. Upon getting home I checked the Park's website and it had posted the closure on February 16. Note to self, should have checked the park's website. The Canyon Trail is closed due to instability and we could see some rather big trees had come down across the trail and creek.

We backtracked and walked up the Camano Island State Park Road and caught the Loop Trail at the top of the hill. The views along the bluff were wonderful, including Mount Rainier. There are several but short, muddy stretches along the south bluff and forest sections. Crossed paths with one couple in the forest section but until we got back to the parking lot we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Arrived at the North Beach parking lot of Camano Island SP just before 10 am. Only one other car in the lot at this time. The restrooms were open and clean.

Headed down the stairs to the beach with our pup, but because it was high tide, there wasn't much beach to walk safely on. Note that the stairs closest to the restrooms will take you down to the beach but upon the end of the stairs there are a bunch of logs (and a barrier to block waves) so it can be slippery when wet. We let her sniff around a bit at what little beach there was and then walked back to the lot and up the road to take the Cross Island Trail to Cama Beach SP.

The walk to Cama Beach is nice but be aware that a good portion of the "trail" is actually along the shoulder of the main road where cars zoom by very quickly. Once back in "actual trail" in Cama Beach SP, it's a nice wooded area. There were patches of muddy spots but totally manageable with my running trail shoes.

Cama Beach was easier to walk along even at high tide than North Beach at Camano Island SP. There were a handful of people around, it looked like folks who were staying at the cabins along the beach there. It was super windy at the beach and we unfortunately saw two large Mylar ballons fly by across the water ...

On our return hike back to Camano Island SP, we saw one deer along the side of the road starring across the street at our pup. Didn't see any others around but assumed the mom was nearby since this one looked quite small and young.

Returned to the car about 2 hours later and GPS said we hiked 4.8 miles (including the walking at both beaches). We went by about 8 people and 5 dogs in total on the trail.

It was overall a nice morning adventure with our pup on the island but the one disappointment was all the dog poop we saw along the trail ... more than we encounter walking in more heavily populated/crowded trails closer to/in Seattle. None the less, looking forward to returning to Camano to explore the other trails we didn't have time for today!

This (28Feb2021 SUN) morning, ~10:30 Swee and i arrived at Camano Island State Park for a leisurely-paced hike/walk of the ~3 miles "Loop Trail" {Clockwise: Parking Lot -> Forest section -> South Rim -> North Beach -> Parking Lot]. Though there were ~8 vehicles in the parking lot, we didn't encounter any one on the Forest Section of the Loop Trail. And its only when we were on the beach that we saw some people; singly, pairs, or in small groups, and a few dogs .. everyone's keeping to themselves doing whatever they were doing, having fun .. leisure stroll, dog-walking, .. And there's one family group who were ingeniously hanging sea-shells on the trees .. beautiful :)

The "Loop Trail" is well-maintained and in reasonably good condition - thank y'all Camano Island State Park. At the same time, not unexpectedly, there were some muddy stretches, though all these are easily passable, but do tread carefully. As for the beach .. it was a mix of rocks, pebbles and sand .. and the driftwoods.

All in all, we had a lovely and enjoyable time at Camano Island S.P. Cheers!

Enjoyed a cold and wet walk through the woods with some friends, first up to Cranberry Lake from Cama Beach Historical State Park and then down to the beach via the Cross Island Trail that ends at Camano Island State Park. Ample parking at Cama Beach Historical State Park and there were a few restrooms open for visitors.

Not much to see at Cranberry Lake this time of year, although we did encounter what appeared to be the hard work of a beaver that had chomped right through a log near the lake (photo below). The main trail to the lake kind of peters out into a bog and a small side trail peters out into thick brush. I had read that you could walk to the far end of the lake but perhaps this time of year the trail is submerged underwater - would have to visit again in the spring or summer to see if we could go further.

We then backtracked and turned left onto the Cross Island Trail to Camano Island State Park. Very pleasant and flat walk (a portion of which is on the side of a road) until you make your way down to the beach and then have to climb back up again. We spotted a windsurfer ripping across the water from the trail. Great trail for a gentle and socially distanced walk in the woods.

Highly, highly recommend stopping at The Baked Café for a quick meal while you're on Camano Island. The burgers and breakfast sandwiches are just killer. My fiancé was very pleased that he was able to order a double cheeseburger for breakfast - that sure doesn't happen every day!

A short hike today from Camas Beach to Camano State Park on Camano Island.  Half of this trail is along the road where cars do not drive slow, so be careful.  The last half of the trail going south runs along the top of the bluff with beautiful views out into the Sound and Whidbey Island.  There are very sturdy benches along the way - great for a nice lunch.  Camano State Park has picnic tables above the beach, very nice restrooms, a cabin area available for rent year around, and a boat launch.
