I headed out to hike the 2.6 mile Loop Trail. Trail is in good condition from the north day use parking lot, along the bluff, and Marsh Trail. I was following the written instructions for this hike on the WTA Website. Tide was out and the walk and beach were awesome on this bright and sunny early March day. We had difficulty in figuring out the trail from the south end of the parking lot. Finally figured out that the small bridge we were supposed to cross is out of commission and that if you get around the bridge, shortly you will see that the Canyon Trail is closed. Upon getting home I checked the Park's website and it had posted the closure on February 16. Note to self, should have checked the park's website. The Canyon Trail is closed due to instability and we could see some rather big trees had come down across the trail and creek.
We backtracked and walked up the Camano Island State Park Road and caught the Loop Trail at the top of the hill. The views along the bluff were wonderful, including Mount Rainier. There are several but short, muddy stretches along the south bluff and forest sections. Crossed paths with one couple in the forest section but until we got back to the parking lot we pretty much had the place to ourselves.
