First time to Briggs Lake. The trail is more of a grassy service road. Lots of mushrooms. Not a lot of people. We were hoping to see one of the little red foxes we’ve seen in the summer but no such luck. We did see 5 bald eagles on this short hike.
Lime Kiln State Park was beautiful. Not many visitors when it’s 40 degrees out. One of my favorite spots for sunset.
We got back to Bothell and couldn’t believe it when a fox ran in front of the car! Lucky day!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful time on San Juan Island at one of our favorite state parks. The trails at Lime Kiln State Park are in great shape. The madrona birch is lovely - such wonderful colors. Binoculars highly recommended. Unfortunately, no whale sightings this time around, but we spotted one huge seal bobbing in the water just off shore. Many informational signs about the marine life and ecosystem of the area. Plenty of parking available and immaculate composting toilets.

From the large, mostly empty parking lot (the visitor center was closed for the season) we walked down to the lighthouse and the whale viewpoint (no whales today). Looped back to check out the lime kiln before heading back to the parking lot.

Arrived at trail head by 9 am and found an empty parking lot. The roads probably discouraged many hikers. But what a day, absolutely glorious conditions. No wind, sunshine, and the ssnow crystals glistened. Hiking gets no better than today!
