Short hike, but steep gradient all the way up. Bugs were a menace, especially at the summit. You get amazing 360 degree views of Snoqualmie valley!
Reaching the summit requires a very short scramble. There is a rope attached there to help you.

Decided to take advantage of this cloudless day and hike up to Mt. Catherine for some views — was not anticipating the clouds of mosquitos, though! Yikes, haven't seen mosquitos this thick outside of India. Could only spend about 10 minutes at the summit because I was getting eaten alive even after drowning myself in high-deet bug spray and no breeze to help me out. You might consider sitting this one out for a couple of weeks to let the mosquito bogs dry up, or choose a windy day!
Otherwise it was a nice hike! Still a couple very small patches of snow but easily crossed. Also some muddy patches but again, no big issue. There's lots of loose rock and tree roots on the trail so I was happy to have my poles but overall the trail is in good condition.
I would say the road is at the upper limit of what a low-clearance vehicle can handle. The worst part is a section of muddy potholes that you could potentially get stuck in. I think a brave and careful driver could probably navigate it OK, but use your best judgement.

Amazing hike up to Mt. Catherine! I would only recommend driving the road to the TH if you have a high clearance vehicle - at one point there were 8+ inch deep ruts following tire treads on both sides of the road. Some rough potholes as well.
The trail is almost entirely snow free. There are two snow patches in total, each about ~15-30 steps long. We didn't have to break out the microspikes, but I did enjoy the extra stability from poles on the way back down.
Beautiful blooming penstemon at the summit, as well as FANTASTIC views! It's a rare hike that can give such great 360 views with only 3 miles of distanced traveled.

Summary: Road is full of potholes in places and we saw a VW Golf lose its oil due to hitting surface rocks. Other than that, the road is how the road always is. Hike was good. Lots of snow to cross. We didn't use poles or spikes and made it fine (51y dad, 17y daughter). The trail can be hard to find in the snow from time to time, so be aware of tracks as you cross. You'll encounter a few snow bridges; they were all stable for us. There is some water on the trail and some trail-swamps in places due to melt but nothing impassable. All in all a good hike.
